Green and Gold Day
Principal Report
It has been a busy few weeks where students have had the luxury of not having to wear their uniform to school – green & gold day to celebrate the Olympics, 100 days of school, and pyjama day, but it has been great to see all students back in their uniform for our annual photo day. The students having sibling photos were so patient as we had a record 55 families wanting sibling photos this year!!
I want to acknowledge the involvement of our parents in their child’s education. Whether it’s being imaginative for crazy hair day or doing hair for photo day, parents are always at the core of their child’s education, and we are so fortunate to have such involved parents. If you would like to become more involved at our school, we are always looking for parents to read with our students or help out in the canteen - reach out and we can arrange a time to be involved that suits you.
For the past few years our year 3-6 students have been participating in Chinese lessons since it became compulsory that students become exposed to LOTE (Language Other Than English) as a part of the curriculum. To bring us in line with other schools in the Pilbara, I propose that as an alternative to Chinese, our school would take Auslan lessons, starting in 2025. Auslan has proven to assist in the development of neural pathways and cognitive processes, as well as providing students the opportunity to communicate more freely with members of the deaf community. If you oppose the idea of our school changing from Chinese to Auslan in 2025, please send me an email, or come and see me.
Just a few friendly reminders -
- There have been a few cases of lice at school again as the weather starts to warm up. All students with hair past their collar should have it tied back. And they should not be sharing hats.
- We have accumulated a large pile of lost items in our lost and found tub, from lunchboxes, drink bottles, library bags, jumpers & oodies. Please check to see if any items below to your child.
Roller-skates and roller blades seem to be a favoured mode of transport with some of our students at the moment. As with bikes and scooters, these should not be used within the school. If these could please be taken off in the morning before students enter the school, and put on outside of school at the end of the day. This will reduce the chance of any collisions with other students or parents.
Please refrain from allowing your children to play on the play equipment before and after school - in both the main school area and the ECE. Many parents are remaining at school after the school day has finished, allowing their children to play on the equipment, this disturbs teachers who are still working in their classes. If an accident occurs on the equipment, the school holds no responsibility after the school day has finished.
If you have any queries about what we do at the school, please let me know either in person, or by email on fiona.lister@education.wa.edu.au
Kind regards,
Fiona Lister
