Newsletter Issue 3 - Term 1 Week 5
Principal Report

Dear Families, Parents and Carers
Thanks for opening up our Newsletter…. read on for a summary of events and notices:
OPEN MORNING
The highlight of my fortnight was the amazing Open Morning we held on the 27 February 2025. We were overwhelmed by the number of families who came for breakfast. We hope you enjoyed the food of our wonderful Miss Fin. I would like to acknowledge our amazing P&C volunteers who made the breakfast a success. The children enjoyed having you visit the school and their classrooms to read their goals and encourage them on their learning journey. It warmed my heart to see all of the families chatting and children playing in the playground.
THANK YOU P&C
Again, highlighting our P&C, thank you for your attendance at the second AGM to support our P&C. Tamara Jose is returning for one more year, as our President. She is a champion, doing a wonderful job. Chloe Bowden is our new Vice President, also our amazing School Health Nurse. Rachel Kinnear is continuing in her secretary role and welcome Samantha Pumphrey to the role of treasurer. Without this core group of people, we are not able to benefit from the amazing community support, advocacy for our school, the school canteen and fundraising contributions. They will need your continued support over the year to support our school.
Icy Pole Fundraiser
Starting in Week 6, every Tuesday and Thursday, Year 6 students will be selling icy poles for $1 during lunchtime in the undercover area. To ensure all students can participate, money from Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students will be collected in the morning and icy poles delivered directly to their classrooms at lunch. This initiative is a fantastic student-run fundraiser to raise funds for the Year 6 camp and graduation celebrations. We encourage everyone to get involved and support this great cause!
On Entry
During weeks 3 – 6 of this term, Pre-Primary students have been participating in the state-wide On-entry Assessment Program. During this time, Pre-Primary teachers have been spending one-on-one time with each child in their class to find out about the literacy and numeracy skills that their students start full time school with. The teacher then uses this information to plan and target teaching programs to suit each child’s learning needs.
NAPLAN
National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy is an Australian wide literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. Students sit assessments in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. NAPLAN will occur 12-17 March and has been carefully scheduled around swimming lessons. Students who miss a test because of illness or an absence from school will be given the opportunity to complete missed tests between the 17-21 March.
Swimming Lessons
Students in room 1-6 started swimming lessons earlier this week. These continue all next week (week 6) and so far everyone is enjoying their lessons. Swimming lessons provide students with many benefits, including physical and mental fitness, water safety, and social skills.
Swimming Faction Carnival
Notes will be sent home shortly regarding the Swimming Carnival that will be happening on Wednesday 26th March at the Vic Hayton Memorial Swimming Pool. We are looking forward to seeing many parents at this event.
Assembly
Our next assembly will be hosted by Room 1on Wednesday 19 March. At this assembly we will be acknowledging our Student Leadership Team. This includes Head boy and girl, Councillors and Faction Captains. Congratulations to our Student Leaders in stepping up into your new leadership role.
If you have any queries about what we do at the school, please let me know either in person, or by email on nicole.hill@education.wa.edu.au
Kind regards,
Nicki Hill
Principal

Around the School
Swimming Lessons started for year 3-6 this week.

Follow The Dream Program

My name is Chelsea Robinson and I am the Follow The Dream coordinator. The program has been running on Monday and Wednesday since Week 3. We are a STEM based Learning club for all Indigenous students, years 1-6. We do a large variety of activities including cooking, art, construction, computers and team building. We provide an inclusive environment where all students have their own space to be creative and support one another. If your child is indigenous and you have not received an invitation, call in to the head office. We would love to have your child there.

School Health Nurse

Welcome to our new North Tom Price Primary families and returning families to the 2025 school year.
My name is Chloe Bawden and I am so pleased to be the school nurse for North Tom Price Primary School. I have been a parent at the school since 2021, when my son commenced Kindy. I am looking forward to meeting everyone so please feel free to introduce yourself if you see me on the school grounds or stop me for a chat- I will never say no!
The role of the School Health Nurse
Across Western Australia, child health nurses provide school health services that promote the health, development and wellbeing of children and young people to help them reach their full potential. Child health nurse’s working in schools provide support through the primary and secondary school years. Child health Nurses work with students, school staff and parents to identify early signs of health or developmental concerns; facilitate health education and health promotion; contribute to development of health care plans for students with identified or chronic health needs; and connect children and young people with relevant health services and supports.
I would also like to make everyone aware of a few items that may be coming home shortly.
I will be sending home School Entry Health Assessments (SEHA) to our new kindy starters- these are universal checks we offer to all students in early childhood to screen and detect primary health care concerns. If you have received this document, please complete and kindly return to your child’s teacher.
I will be working in collaboration with our educators to further support our community with health information and support through attendance at the school. My goal is to partner with you to ensure your child’s health and safety while they are at school.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.
Here’s to a great school year!
With Kindness,
Chloe Bawden
